Today is a new day. A fresh start. A clean slate.
Today is the chance to do things differently.
Today I will…
Listen, truly listen, to what my kids are saying.
Not be distracted with social media, studying, or work.
I will leave the computer behind and ignore the ringing phone.

I will live in the moment rather than rushing it along to get to the next task.
Follow their lead rather than force them into what’s most suitable for me.
Watch them choose their own adventures.

Kiss them when I want to yell.
Hug them when I feel myself lose patience.

Smile when I feel like crying.
Laugh when they gang up on me.

I will join in their laughter and dance to their silly songs.
I will gladly play 87235 rounds of Peek-A-Boo just to hear the laughter it provokes.
I will forget the phrases of “in just a minute” and “you need to wait” and “not right now”.
Today, I will be here. Fully here. Loving every minute of it.

And they will love every minute of it.

Great Plan! Such cute little guys
And a handsome big guy!
I want to print this out and put it on my fridge. Love it.
And that is so bloody hard some days…but on those days when we are present and we allow the world to revolve around them, they appreciate it so much.

This is such a sweet and necessary post, I think, for all parents. It’s so easy to get caught up in the things that really don’t matter and lose sight of the things that really do matter. I’ve been stepping offline a lot more recently. I’ve been reading and dancing and enjoying the sunshine, because this, or these parts, are what I want to remember of my time spent as a mom.

Yes, yes, yes! I said the same thing this morning and right after I type this, I will be shutting off my computer until naptime. I will let her have all of me all day and see where the day will take us. When the others get home, I will listen to each of them and be present for the three of them. I will, I will. Thank you my friend for this reminder!

I’m trying SO hard to do this too.
It’s kind of ironic, don’t you think, that you are posting about this.

I let go yesterday and just let my kid drive the day’s activities. Funny how that was more fun than surfing the web and tweeting with my friends. Sorry friends.
And I LOVE these pics!
PS When I WAS thinking about the interwebs, I was thinking about YOU and getting a bloggy remodel. But you know, when the kids get bored with us, right?
What a great reminder that I needed today.

Oh. What a great mantra. Today I shipped my kids off so I could get some work done
I really need to start finding “office hours” and then closing shop. I love this!
Good for you! I’ve been making more of an effort at this too and it’s so worth it. Time is too precious these days.
Yes, exactly. It feels so good to unplug sometimes.

This was exactly what I needed to hear. Im seriously considering cutting back. Ive done it the past two weeks–and I think its SO necessary. My boys need me, all of me.
